Ajáná Pathik - The Unknown Traveler

The Unknown Traveler is one of the key themes of the vast ocean of the 5018 songs of Prabha’ta Samgiita. Devotees have realised Shrii Sarkar as Lord A’nandamu’rti in their meditation. On one occasion after having failed to try and express the majesty of the Lord’s biography, His devotees asked Him to write His own autobiography. After a short while the Lord informed the devotees that He was finished. The devotees rushed to read the paper He gave them. They then read these words,

I was a Mystery

I am a Mystery

And I will always

Remain a Mystery.

In His philosophical scripture the author recreated the term Ta’raka Brahma, or the Supreme Liberator, as the core of His unique spiritual vision. In His songs the mystery of Taraka Brahma is hinted at in this unique symbol of the Unknown Traveller. The theme of the Unknown Traveller expresses a pivotal aspect of the devotional world the author is welcoming us into through these songs. This theme is primarily reflected in songs dealing with the phrase “Ajáná Pathik.”

However there are other words used such as “acin” which also express the theme of the unknown, mysterious Entity. Also there are other songs also in this anthology that deal with this Traveler who though unknown, is so close; who though forever departing, is ever returning. The devotee immersed in the external, tries to seek Him in forests and red dusty roads of this world. Eventually, the devotee comes to realize that this Unknown Traveller too is wandering the byways and pathways of the devotee’s heart, searching and yearning for the devotee. When the travellers meet, then internal and external merge into the bliss of darshan. Yet, even then the drama of the Unknown Traveller becomes more intense and the Traveller becomes more mysterious than ever before. We are fully known to Him because He has nurtured and loved every pore of our being with His limitless love. However we have neither loved Him in the same way nor with the same intensity and hence He ever remains unknown to us.
