On a rain drenched night You came
and intoxicated me with the fragrance of pandanas.

You came in the deep dark night
to pour forth nectar like effulgence.

In the thunderous roar
of the stormy night
while the bamboo crashed against each other
with deafening claps,
You savoured the blossoms of kadamba flowers.

Rain clouds floated on tears of deep melancholy.
Smiling girls danced and amused themselves indoors
by tying up their hair and decorating
it with jasmine and malati flowers.

The fragrance of Your pandanas
remains everfresh in my heart.

On a rain drenched night,
beloved, come,
intoxicate me with pandanas perfume.

From the depths of darkest night
pour forth nectarial effulgence.
Savour kadamba blossoms
in thunderous roar,
while bamboo groves
in the stormy night
fight with deafening blows.

Rain clouds shed tears
of deep melancholy.
Girls, smiling
dance
and amuse themselves indoors,
tying up their hair
with sprays of jasmine and malati.

Your perfume of pandanas
remains fragrant still
within my heart.
